January 30 meeting of the Newport Center Toastmasters Club was attended by 23 members and 6 guests: Travis ( 5th visit), Susie (4th visit), Norm (3rd visit), David (2nd visit), Andrew (2nd visit), Norma (1st visit).

- Carl is keeping a list of the speeches given by each member to help identify our progress. He also reminded us to use our Competent Leadership manual and bring it to all our meetings.

Old Business:
- David reminded us that one of our rules mentioned that if we miss three times in a row without a good excuse our name goes on the inactive list.
- David will have an officers meeting today, after the meeting.

New Business:
- Stephen bought a case for all our equipment. A motion to refund him for the cost was passed.

- Carl bought a storage for the contents of our speeches for $28. A motion to refund him was passed. Les will use it for our speeches. Carl also is donating a $100 storage unit.
- Carl reminded us to use our Competent Leadership manual and bring it to all our meetings.

The January 16 meeting of the Newport Center Toastmasters Club was attended by 21 members and 4 guests: Travis (4th visit), Andrew, and Susie , (both 2nd visit), Aaron (1st visit).

The theme was: “Charities” – The word of the day was: “altruism”.

- Tracy reminded us that she needs to know ahead of time when any of us need the equipment.

New Business:
- Giselle, one of the additional winners of three times in one category within the last six months was presented an award for Spark Plug.

- Les emphasized the importance of being responsible for our assigned roles.

- President David expressed appreciation for Les who has been video-graphing our meetings for over 20 years.

- Two of the additional winners of three times in one category within the last six months were presented:

Les won for Best Speaker,
David for Risk taker
- Mark gave directions for the photos he and Stephen will be taking.
- Carl reminded us that for the Competent Leader accomplishment, we need to have our manual filled in by a member. That is one of the goals needed by the club to be President’s Distinguished.
- Michael suggested to remember to add our Toastmasters accomplishments on our résumé.
- Dr. Bob mentioned that when we speak to a group of 12 or more people we need to stand to help the audience know who is speaking.
- Tracy reminded us that she needs to know ahead of time when any of us need the equipment.
