Old Business: New Business: - Michael made a motion to have the grammarian count the use of the word of the day only if used properly, not in an opening statement. The motion was seconded and passed. |

Abel and Tom were inducted as new members. Welcome Abel and Tom. The theme was: “Hobbies” – The word of the day was: “abstruse”. The winners were: Risk Taker = Jeffrey Most Improved Speaker = Darren Second Best Speaker = Darren Best Speaker = Dr. Bob Presiding: David Speakers: Evaluators: Stephen, Michael, Will, (Joe) Zhuo. Old Business: New Business: - David reported on the Youth Leadership and its success. He thanked the members who helped each week. |

| The April 30 meeting of the Newport Center Toastmasters Club was attended by 22 members and 3 guests: Tom, Abel, and Jason, Area Governor .
The theme was: “Believe it or not” – The word of the day was: “sagacious”. The winners were: Risk Taker = Christi Most Improved Speaker = Christi Second Best Speaker = None Best Speaker = Alex Presiding: David Speakers: Christi: “Prescription for Healing” Alex: “A Dog and a Boy” Michelle: “YES – Yourself – Evaluate – Structure” Evaluators: Michael, Les, David, Marianne. Old Business: - Mark and Stephen have taken photos of all but one member and have them on a DVD. New Business: - Tracy will be unable to handle the equipment for a few weeks and asked for a volunteer to help. One of our guests, Abel, accepted the challenge. |

Old Business: - Les will extract photos from the speeches on the tapes and he needs to know if members are willing to have part of their presentation on line. He will only post those of members who agree to it. New Business: - Feedback to Steve on his speech was discussed to help Steve at the contest. |

- Since we have been counting “so” as well as “ah” the bells should be rung for both and the duties should include both.
- Volunteers are needed for the Youth Leadership. Scott, Giselle, Steve and Cynthia said to contact them. (What a great club we have)

- Dues are due. Please give your checks to Jeffrey today. The dues will be turned in tomorrow.
- Stephen and Mark mentioned that there are a few members whose photos were not taken. Michael’s office will be used to complete them.
- Members who helped with the Youth Leadership were presented a certificate. Each did one of the Better Speaker Series.
They were: Tracy, Michael, Alex, Tom, Sandra, Cynthia. Thanks to them 11 Young girls have experienced public speaking. Tracy is receiving credit for having completed a Youth Leadership Program.
New Business:
- David mentioned that candidates for new officers will be asked soon. Also the installation will be planned.
- Christi emphasized that members need to accept the responsibilities assigned.
- David L. moved that when a member asks for more than eight minutes, the Toastmaster of the day add the extra two minutes in the schedule. It would prevent spending the time discussing it with all the members. A discussion ensued but the motion was approved
- David H. mentioned that a motion was passed at the officers meeting last week and he presented it to the members. The motion reads:
“When assigned a role, a member’s responsibility is to perform that duty or find a replacement. If not, the first occurrence of the missed role, the member will be given a warning. The second one will automatically place the name of the member on the inactive list.”
The discussion was not conclusive and was tabled. Unfinished business.
