The May 11th, 2020 meeting of the Newport Center Toastmasters Club was attended by 20 members.

The theme was: “Travel” .  The word of the day was “perfunctory”

New Business:

YOUR SUPPORT NEEDED: Krista Mesenbrink, senior mental health care unit, has been struck with COVID19. If anyone has disinfectant wipes to support them, please reach out to her directly or via our Toastmaster email address – newporttoastmasters at gmail.com.

Carl’s recommendation for the hot seat is to check in with the various roles. Therefore, the hot seat receives the material from whoever is preparing for it. For example, contacting the grammarian to get the word of the day, be prepared to have the color codes green, yellow, red in case you fill in as the timer, bring a “ding”-sheet as ah-counter, etc….

Please share with one of the officers, which role you will be running for in the next term starting July. I am declaring that we aim to have elections for this upcoming term and we want all of you to run for office for our distinguished club.

A link to the officer roles from the Toastmaster handbook.

Clarification:

Regarding missing more than 3 meetings in a row, a work related absence is excused if the member provides notice and finds a replacement for their role.

Club specifics: Currently the club is at the maximum number of members which is 35.  If a member misses more than 3 meetings in a row that is not related to travel, illness, or business that member will moved to the inactive list. If a member is unable to attend a meeting it is the member’s responsibility to find a replacement. Remember to fill your role if you are unable to attend.Once the inactive member returns to meetings the member will be admitted before the guests if there is a waitlist at that time.

It is important to keep our introductions, invocation, toast, educational minute and joke, short.
